People ask me quite often which soap and lotion they should use on their face. The answer (of course) is… It depends.
I don’t have very sensitive skin, so I am able to use all of the soaps on my face. Before making our goat milk soap, after I washed my face, my skin would feel “tight”. Now, I wash my face with our goat milk soap and it stays feeling soft. So if you don’t usually have any trouble, I would just choose a soap scent that appeals to you. All of the soaps have the same amount of goat milk, so they are all equally moisturizing.
If you have any skin sensitivities, I would start with an unscented soap. The purity and calendula are very popular facial soaps, but many women with sensitive skin prefer to use the organic castile. It is the most mild soap that we make (we suggest it for use on newborns), so it is very gentle on sensitive facial skin.
If your skin is oily or acne prone, the tea tree is another great one to try and many people find that it helps with breaking out. Combination skin can use any of these soaps as well.
The best way to find out which soap works best for you is to try the different soaps and see which one your skin prefers. We also have half bars and travel bars available if you would like to test smaller amounts of the different soaps.
As always, if you have skin allergies, try the soap on a small patch of skin first to make sure you are not allergic.
When it comes to lotion, I have found that with regular use of our goat milk soap, I no longer need lotion on my face. Occasionally the weather will be particularly harsh and dry and my face does need some extra moisturizing.
When this happens, I wash my face and my hands. Then I apply a little bit of lotion to my hands (not a lot), and smooth it over my face.
When it comes to the lotion scent, the same rules apply. If you have any sensitivity, I would use the unscented lotion or the tea tree lotion. Otherwise, choose a scent that you enjoy.
I’d love to hear how our soaps and/or lotion work on your face. Please let me know!
